I. What lead Judas to betray Jesus?
1. Judas did not enter into the relationship with Jesus to change his life, but for
what he could get. (John 12:4-6, TLB)
2. Instead of Judas controlling his wants, he allowed his wants to control him. As a
result, Judas walked by sight and not by faith.
II. How do we betray others?
1. Many people betray and get betrayed over wanting someone else’s position, title,
or prestige.
2. Many people betray and get betrayed over possessions or wealth. (1 Timothy 6:9-
10, TLB)
3. Greed leads to betrayal, which leads to many sorrows. (Hebrews 13:5, NLT;
Colossians 3:5-6)
III. Many people betray and get betrayed because of power.
1. Some seek jobs and possessions to gain power.
2. Judas thought his betrayal would lead him to gaining power; whether the Jews or
Romans gave it to him.
3. Like Judas, we are being tempted by the devil with power of this world.
IV. The result of betrayal can be death (spiritual or physical). (1 Timothy 6:9-10, TLB)
1. Spiritual death – being deprived of the power of God. (Luke 15:14-24, TLB; 2
Corinthians 7:10, TLB)
2. Physical death – Judas’ guilt focused on himself and not the broken relationship
he had with God. As a result, he committed suicide. (Matthew 27:5, TLB)
V. We have all been betrayed and we have all been betrayers.
1. We have betrayed Jesus by choosing what we want instead of what God wants
for us. (Matthew 6:25-33, TLB)
2. Most people only see what others are doing instead of what they have done.
VI. There’s only two ways to handle betrayal:
1. Learn to forgive by going to Jesus.
2. Or learn by Judas, by going to those who were part of the betrayal without Jesus,
and commit suicide.
3. Handing betrayal the wrong way will kill you little by little.
