Psalm 90:16-17 (NRSV) “Let your work be manifest to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands— O prosper the work of our hands!” I love this verse in Psalm 90, and I am praying it over our church now. In it the Psalmist writes a bold prayer, asking for the favor of God. I believe in individual and cooperative blessings and protection, but that’s for another time.
I want you to know as a promisor – member of Journey Church I’m praying God’s favor for you, your family, career, health, and finances. The Psalmist goes to God to ask for favor because he knows He is the only true source. Two times the writer asks for God’s favor to be on the work of his hands.God’s favor is already at work in the life of every believer. The question is, will we see it and walk in it?
Favor is far more than just positive thinking. Sadly, too many people look for favor from other fountains (people, places and things). Some seek favor from relationships, family, careers or even government. Those fountains are nothing but dry bones. All God’s favor and blessing flow from Him because He is the source. God might choose to use others to bring about the favor and blessing but they are only the conduit. You must understand and believe God is the only true and lasting source of favor.
We read in the Old Testament, the Hebrew people often addressed God by Jehovah-Jireh, which means God is the Provider! He is the source. As Christians we must recognize God as the source.
You might ask, “Pastor James, what does it mean to recognize God as the source?” It means acknowledging God alone sits on the throne of our hearts. God is our first Priority (Matt.6:33), our King, our Judge, and our good, good Father.
We are to go after God, no His blessing! We follow the Father and not His favor!
When we seek the heart and face of God, we will find the favor of God. This is your year to recognize and enjoy God’s favor in your family, health, finances, addictions, and enjoy this force and power to take you where He wants you. One last thing, don’t think or say “it’s not for me,” because it is!
Faith Declaration Today:
God is my source. He provides everything I need and more. This year I will see God’s favor and walk in it. By faith I believe this will be my best year ever.
Today’s Challenge:
What does success look like to you? If you had to come up with one word that defines success, what would it be?
