Because we are followers of Jesus, we should be different from those people far from God. How so? What sets us apart? Our words, our actions, our attitudes, and our priorities surely do. But do you know what else sets us apart? God’s favor.
1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV) “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. ”
We are anointed, appointed, and set apart. We are chosen and special to God. People should see our freedom, faith, forgiveness, and favor and want what we have.
Look at how the God’s favor protected and prospered the Israelites in the book Exodus. Before Moses and Aaron arrived on the scene, the Egyptians saw themselves as superior and the Jews only existed to serve them. However, when God’s favor arrived with Moses and Aaron, the story shifts. The plagues fall on the Egyptians, while each time the Jews were spared. No plagues, no problems, and no judgment (God’s favor). Pharaoh releases the Jews from slavery and the Egyptian citizens give the former slaves gold, silver, and money. What changed? The favor of God was with them and the Egyptians saw the favor of God.
Exodus 12:31-36 (NKJV) “Then he(Pharaoh) called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise, go out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the LORD as you have said. Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also. ” Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians. ”
