Jabez asked God to bless him and to bless him indeed.
Jabez wanted God to enlarge his territory.
Jabez wanted God’s hand upon him because that would keep him from evil and pain.
Why God granted Jabez his prayer:

Jabez was more distinguished by reputation. (Genesis 6:7-9, NKJV; 1 Peter 2:17, NKJV)
Characteristics of honor:
Integrity; it’s characterized by:
- Strong convictions.
- Courageous moral choices.
- Servant’s spirit.
- Righteous leadership.
- Paying your bills and tithes.
- By not quitting or giving up when things are tough.
- Doing what you’re asked and doing what you say you will do.

Right priorities. (Matthew 6:33, NKJV)
Generosity. (Proverbs 22:9, NIV)
