Don’t Be an Excuse Maker

by | The Heart of a Millionaire

It’s easy to become an excuse maker instead of a disciple-maker.

Luke 9:57-62 NKJV
Now it happened as they (Jesus) journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” (Are you really willing to follow Jesus?) And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Then He said to another (To me and you), “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” (What is our excuse?) Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” (God wants us to go preach the Kingdom of God) And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, (Will you follow Jesus?) but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” (What’s our excuse now?) But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Are you an excuse maker or a disciple-maker? The more money we have the more choices we have; it becomes very, very, easy to make excuses why not to follow Jesus. What is your #1 excuse for not following Jesus?

Our excuses cause us to miss the spiritual enjoyment and power that can only come from following Jesus. What does following Jesus look like on a day to day basis?

1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

At work start doing it to the glory of God; at home, in hobbies, etc., just learn to do it to the glory of God.

Romans 14:17 NKJV
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

We can’t enjoy the peace and joy God has for us when we keep making excuses for not following Jesus.

1 Corinthians 4:20 NKJV
For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

God does not want us to keep making excuses, He wants us to experience His power.

1 Corinthians 10:31
