How to “Be the Church”

by | Be the Church

To be the church we must understand God’s original intent, meaning, and purpose for our lives, church, and families.

The longer something exist the easier it is to shift from its original intent, meaning, or purpose.

What was God’s original intent for the church? (Genesis 1:26-28, NKJV)

  • The church in the beginning was the same as it is today, not a building it’s a people.
  • In the beginning a couple created by God for God and God’s purpose, which was and it to be blessed, fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it.
  • The church is a gathering of people celebrating Jesus as the living Son of God, to love and serve God, that results in a movement of God locally and throughout the earth which also results in people getting baptized.
  • When the church turns inward it stops being the church!

What happens to the church when it forgets its original intent and purpose? (Genesis 6:5-8, NKJV; Romans 5:13, NKJV; NLT2)

  • When we forget our original intent and purpose it leads to destruction.

What was the original intent and purpose for the church after the flood? (Genesis 8:1, NKJV; Genesis 9:1, NKJV)

  • We come to church and learn to be the church.
  • The church is a gathering of people celebrating Jesus as the living Son of God, to love and serve God, that results in a movement of God locally and throughout the earth which also results in people getting baptized.
  • When the church turns inward it stops being the church.

What happens to the church after the flood when it forgets its original intent and purpose?

  • What was the intent of one language? (Genesis 11:1-9, NKJV)
  • Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. (Genesis 9:1, NKJV)
  • God wanted them to bring other people to heaven with them.
  • The devil gets us to focus on ourselves and leads to confusion and destruction.
  • God wants us to focus on His purpose and plan for our lives that leads to power, passion, praise, peace, priorities, and purpose.
  • When you are not using what God’s given you for the purpose God’s given to you it will lead to destruction.
  • Confusion comes from wrong priorities in life—when we are so focused on what we can do, what we are going to do, instead of what God would have us do. (Genesis 11:6, NLT2; 1 Corinthians 14:32-33, NKJV)

What was God’s original intent and purpose for the New Testament Church? (Acts 1:8, NKJV; Acts 2:1-8, NKJV)

  • Why did God allow them each to understand in their own language again?
  • To be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
  • What happens to the New Testament Church when it forgets its original intent and purpose?(Acts 8:1, NKJV)
  • We rebel against God’s original intent and purpose of the church.

Insights:

  • God’s original intent and purpose for Journey Church is to be witnesses to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8, NKJV)
  • If we as Journey Church forget or rebel against God’s original intent or purpose for us –we will have confusion and be scattered instead of enjoying the power and blessings of God.(Acts 8:1, NKJV)
  • God’s original intent and purpose for us and our family is to be fruitful and multiply. (Acts 1:8, NKJV)
  • If we rebel and forget God’s original intent and purpose for us there will be consequences –we can’t ‘keep back’ without a ‘kick back.’ (Acts 8:1, NKJV; Acts 5:1-5, NKJV)

Things we can do so we don’t forget or rebel against God’s original intent and purpose for our lives, church, and families.

  • Commit to being the church where you are. (1 Corinthians 10:31, NKJV; Matthew 6:31-34, NKJV)
    • Stop worrying about the things the world does, because we know this world will not last.
    • Seek furthering God’s kingdom wherever we are and whatever we are doing and God will take care of the rest.
  • Commit to asking God if He wants you to move and be a part of a movement of God in another area.
  • Commit to giving and serving here at Journey Church like never before. Learn the joy of sacrificial giving and serving.
  • Speaking the same language will cause us to be able to accomplish the impossible—or have unbelievable confusion. (Genesis 1:26-28, NKJV; Genesis 9:1-5, NKJV)
